World Cup 2014 Tips

France meet Germany today at the 2014 World Cup, at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio De Janeiro.

The two sides have met 25 times before, with France winning 11 games, Germany winning 8 games, and there being 6 played out draws.

France defeated Nigeria 2-0 in their Round of 16 fixture.

Germany overcame USA 1-0 in their Round of 16 fixture.

Injuries & Suspensions

French defender Raphael Varane suffered serious hydration issues after their game against Nigeria and required hospitalisation, while another defender, Mamadou Sakho, is fit again after a knee problem. German defender Shkodran Mustafi tore his hamstring against Algeria and is now likely out of the tournament, but Mats Hummels, who missed against Algeria with illness, has recovered and could come in to the side. Forward Lukas Podolski should be available for selection after overcoming a thigh problem.

Prediction & Tip

A massive opening game today, garnering much interest from all over the world. Two football superpowers go head to head in what makes for a very appealing affair. German football has been much lauded in recent years, and whilst the National team hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at this tournament so far, they are still considered won of the favourites to win the whole thing. French football has rebounded at this World Cup, and Les Bleus are looking to return to the top of the summit as well.  Very tough to find some value here, but we think the trend of 90 minute draws at this World Cup might continue, so will take the 9/4 that Ladbrokes are offering for this eventuality.
